First post on DW, poking around, trying to decide what to do in light of the tumblr exodus... purge... self-destruct.
Any hints/tips or cultural know-how to this site appreciated. I'm an architect, artist and writer of fannish and non-fannish content, variety streamer on twitch, with an interest in city building/sim and rpg video games. I love to create and design characters, even when I don't plan on doing much with them.

content creation wise, I'll probably post art, both fan art and random original things(ocs, creatures, landscapes), landscape paintings, fic or book reviews/recs (mostly wlw), photography (usually either food or skyscapes), random thoughts, aesthetic or funny screenshots from video games, maybe fan fiction or original works, headcanon roundups, character/oc ask prompt sort of things, art I've had commissioned,

Nova- Prize Commission
Jan. 4th, 2019 12:56 amThis is Nova, a co-worker's granddog, as a custom digital painting I offered for a charity fundraising raffle. I spent more time than I was planning to on it, but I'm really happy with the result and the practice on this might be useful for an upcoming potential project...
My new Khajiit Ice Mage, Zura-Ko. I made her in the game, she's supposed to be sorta snow-leopard looking. She's tentatively Raz's and Jimila's kitten. She's the "alfred" to wayward Siren's "batman" (and Tani's "robin" ?) The Q to their Bond in the Dominion's spy network. So that sort of unamused glare is quite intentional.

Anelaire, "Elaire", the eldest. Very much "I'm the eldest." Very much doesn't want anybody thinking she's Piri. Very much in the belief that being eldest is a defining factor in her as a person (despite the fact that her mother, who is in line for the throne ahead of her, is NOT the eldest, and her grandmother, the Empress, could easily abolish the hereditary monarchy well before it'd matter anyway)
Pirimme, "Piri" actually doesn't care, in the sense that she doesn't make a big deal about it, she knows everyone knows she's not the one in line for the throne. However, in that sense, she does care, because not being her sister... or maybe because her sister is Elaire, means Piri doesn't worry about stepping into that role, for better or worse.
The weight of how much they each feel their birth order matters, means they probably aren't either going to say "it doesn't matter"... rather its everybody else in their lives who give them grief when they bring it up.
If you have twin OCs, which one makes a bigger deal out of being the older/younger twin and which one points out that it doesn’t matter cause they’re twins?

RVW - Read/View/Watch Rec List - 12/22/18

It's the inaugural post of RVW (get it, it's pronounced "review" but its an acronym???) aka Read (words), View (pictures/graphics), Watch (moving pictures that usually have accompanying sounds associated with them...) my ... weekly? bi-weekly? recommendations list. I'm trying to keep it to things I consumed/am consuming this week (instead of focusing on old favorites) and would recommend to people... who were tempted enough to subscribe to me I guess.
Only Ever You - Book (kindle unlimited), Natasha West
Lesbian Romance Novel, about a woman who's wife died and another who's parents both recently passed and how they meet in group grief counseling. The main characters are both a bit outside the normal range of heroines, "flaw" wise, and yet they stil balanced each other amazingly. The cast of characters were fun, even I never could remember who was who. Definitely cried some. Set in the UK. Shifting POV (my favorite).
Looking for Eagles, Book (kindle unlimited), Savannah Swan *read in progress*
WLW Romance Novel, about two women who had been first loves over the summers when they were in middle/high school and both attended a church camp, until they lost touch when one was kicked out when she came out to her parents. Nearly twenty years later, they happen to run into each other at a (Philadelphia Eagles themed) bar and instantly rekindle that flame that never died. The queer and poc found family in this one is great, lots of diversity that less frequently discussed in the genre, and introduced quite well. I especially love genderqueer Reagan, and how the book handles their pronouns based on who- and when- is the POV. Refreshing take on the main characters differing stances on religion, at least so far. Shifting POV and non-chronological chapters (flashbacks to their youthful summers together).

An actually good movie that deals with being a fat teenage girl. But also about dealing with grief, a parent you have to parent, texas, forever friends, first loves, new friends, revolutions, drag queens, stage magic, dolly parton, found families, and of course... beauty pageants? Okay so this isn't a movie I would have thought I was going to like, but I'm glad I took a chance on it. I mean, I wept buckets watching it, but it was so freaking good. Lots of familiar faces. Hannah is my fav. Bo a close second.

The House That Spied on Me - Article, Kashmir Hill and Surya Mattu, (Feburary 2018)
A humorous recounting of turning Kashmir's apartment into a "smart home" of wifi/internet connected devices, where the data is all being sent through a router monitored and analyzed by Surya, to see just how much (as in the size of the data, not necessarily the contents as... "most" of the data was encrypted) information was being sent and shared with the cloud brains of these smart objects. Personally, I've read 1984 and the "home assistants" that are becoming increasingly popular just freak me the heck out, especially when embraced by my baby-boomer parents who at one time wouldn't even use their real names on the internet due to privacy concerns. There's already been instances of severe "accidental" privacy breaches thanks to these machines, and that's not even taking in consideration all the intentional ones and inevitable security risks of bugging your own home.

For/Inspired byOld Art originally posted December 22 2016, right when I started getting back into writing fic, thanks largely in part to my new friend's fics and characters. I adored Kamilah from very early on, and regularly did art and snippets of this "beta" timeline where Kamilah was alive (at the time, "alpha" timeline was the version of events that was to be canon-compliant, aka- Kamilah would have died before Fareeha was born, like in the original fic, Aa'ilah). She's the one with the motorcycle helmet, here. As I worked on this piece- one of my most labor intensive art pieces even to this day- I slowly but surely developed Adelah as a character in my mind. I ended up writing an entire oneshot (Call to Arms) over that next weekend about the young woman that infant grows into.dragonyris‘s various fics… Milah and Ana would be badass awesome grandmas okay, no matter the universe. Adelah has quite the name to live up to, no doubt she’ll find some way to honor and aggravate the women who love her (after all, its a family tradition)
I still love Fareeha and Angela as a couple. Two accomplished women, successful in their own rights, but coming together for this common goal, for an organization that had a major role in shaping who they are, but in vastly different ways. In fact that vein was a reoccurring thread with them, their different approaches, outlooks, skill sets... but shared purpose, goodness, and drives. They were 'whole' on their own, but together, were so much stronger and supported, and in that support, allowed to be vulnerable to each other. It was a dynamic reflected in the game meta at the time (back before multiple post-release " adjustment's " ruined the playability of the game for me, and seemed to continuously hack away at their in-game synergy. (And the seemingly(?) corporate-sponsored anti-ship vendetta soured my feelings for the company/writers, if not the ship itself)
These two still mean a lot to me, especially as a I approach them in age and ... career fulfillment? And also because they formed the link that brought me to my still-friend, and strengthened my relationship with various other fans.

OC-tober Day 9 Snack: Baropa “Little Ro”
Baropa is a young orphaned imp of a Getanruba who is addicted to candy and all things junk food. She has a fair grasp of weather manipulation magic and extracts bribes from the locals who seek rain or sun in exchange for cheap sweets. She’s eventually adopted byartkat183 ‘s Rowan (Big Ro), a reclusive gardener, who supplements his new daughter’s diet with carrots and other freshly grown produce equally alien to her.

OC-tober Day 12 Future: “Ducky”
“Ducky” is a green sapphire, who’s future vision is very very accurate… being exactly seven seconds into her future. She’s a rework of a blue sapphire design from a few years ago, before padparadscha gave us a base line for universal sapphire traits. She’s a quite good fighter, thus her outfit, and part of white-diamond’s court. Her gem placement is homage to the phrase “shoot from the hip” lol
I really enjoy drawing her because I find her colors very calming. Her design has so many puns, they still make me laugh. She has a vulnerable, slightly anxious aura in spite of her learned proficiency, a juxtaposition which is endearing to me... but also, she's just very cute.

Every year we have reps come in at work, and they bring their cookie decorating kits and we all go wild trying to out decorate each other and ourselves lol... my star turned out a bit wobbly and I wish I had had white sprinkle dust instead of blue, but it was a good warm up for the bell.
Decided to try marbling on the bell, and really like how it turned out. It looks like a fluffy knitted sweater and now I dont want to eat it..... but the lady who bakes these does a really good job and theyre so delish.... so I'll stare at it a bit more and then cave! lmao
Rescues and the Rhyssa - Cadan & Sophi

thorinsmut I fell in love with this book and tried to get my headcanons for their looks down 'on paper'. I think I did better with Cadan than Sophi, but both were still a lot of fun. I highly recommend the book, Its queer ladies and their very assorted yet still very queer families in a high stakes space adventure... and their love story. I love how their relationship develops, both "in bed" and out of it. Multiple POV, which is my favorite. The supporting cast was just as endearing as the main characters. Cool and varied aliens. HEA. also here

Kamilan, a Draenei native Draenor… I think. I’m not well versed on WoW lore, but I think that’s how it goes… My palladin main on WoW that I haven’t played in a hot minute… I’m sure there’s a canon kid model or art or something but this is my interpretation.

Andra, Altmer blacksmith who volunteered to accompany Ayrenn’s army in Tamriel, becomes close friends with Sielaire- supplying a helpful outside perspective for her often single-focused friend, and Rilenya’s lover once they’re both set up in the Riverside Market…. I’ll let you decide why she fits this prompt.

Tani, my Bosmer OC and ESO Main for the prompt “nature.” She’s a wood elf, from the Redfur Trading Post/Marbruk area who follows the green pact more… culturally than spiritually. She’s a freelance assassin who relies on illusion magic to investigate and eliminate her targets, and sometimes needs to break the pact to keep her cover. She’s on a job when she meets her eventual wife, the princess-who-doesn’t-want-to-be who sees past her disguise…

OC-tober Day 2 Couple: Teka( And a bonus Adelah... )
Here’s my Overwatch omnic oc Teka for the day 2 prompt “couple.” She was designed specifically to be friend and eventual lover of another OC of mine. So their skills compliment each other and their personalities meld and contrast in cute ways. She’s also the second OC of mine to have this name/nickname… and there’s the whole ‘binary’ 0101 thing going on, so she fits this prompt pretty well.

MapCrunch Mondays are a weekly event by twitch.tv/meganimation where the community finds a random place on earth via the mapcrunch website (similiar to google streetview) and then we all draw inspiration from that location to create a work of art. This was my first time creating after a few months of just listening and watching the progress of other members. I was trying out a few different brushes in photoshop, which is why the clouds look so different in style from the rest of the piece. The actual location had much more muted colors but as it was a... stressful day... I injected some springy colors into the piece and am really glad I did.
I plan on participating and posting more of these, and I'll remember to grab the link to the location on earth so that you can see for yourself!
